Peru’s Christmas tree is aglow and Santa arrives downtown

There was a huge turnout at Saturday evening’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Little Au Sable River Park Gazebo and sponsored by the Peru Youth Commission. Peru teachers and several students led everyone singing Christmas carols. Brady O’Connell, the Peru youngster who just underwent a successful third kidney transplant, lit the tree. Brady’s mom Nicole spoke briefly and thanked everyone for all the support they have given to the O’Connell family over the last two years.
About 6:45 p.m. the Peru Fire Department arrived with Santa, Mrs. Claus and several elves. Santa led everyone into the Peru Community Church Fellowship Center where he listened to the children’s Christmas requests.
