Mary Lou Zaferakis to be inducted into Peru Central Hall of Fame
Mary Lou Zaferakis will be inducted as the 18th member of the Peru Central School District Hall of Fame on Thursday evening, June 11th. Mary Lou Zaferakis was employed by the Peru Central School District from 1968-1999. She began career in education as an 8th grade math and computer literacy/programming teacher and later became Principal of Peru Junior High School, retiring as the Principal of Peru High School in 1999.
Mrs. Zaferakis , known as “Mrs. Z,” will be honored for her contributions to education and to her community. As an administrator, Mrs. Z was instrumental in the creation of the Peru Middle School, Advanced Placement Programs, and the Gifted and Talented Programs. She also was an instructor at the North Country Teacher Resource Center. Her involvement with student council and the shared decision making process benefited students and colleagues at Peru Central School.
Mrs. Zaferakis continues to be an active member of the Plattsburgh area community. She is a former member of the following organizations: the United Way of Clinton and Essex Board of Directors, the Development Corporation of Clinton County Board of Directors, North Country Tennis Association. She is presently an avid golfer and member of the Adirondack Golf and Country Club as well a volunteer at CVPH Medical Center and St. Peter’s Church.
Peru Central School is proud to honor Mrs. Mary Lou Zaferakis during the Academic Awards Banquet at 7:00 in the High School Auditorium.
