Vandalism at Little Ausable River Park is a concern
By John T. Ryan
Counselor Peter Glushko chaired the Town Board meeting of Monday, July 27, 2009 in the absence of Town Supervisor Donald Covel.
Security at the Little Ausable River Park was one of the primary subjects of discussion. The Town Council has asked Greg Timmons to investigate how much a surveillance system would cost. Over the past several months vandals have caused damaged to the gazebo’s electrical service, lattice work, railings, and playground equipment. There is also a continuing problem with graffiti under the Route 22 bridge. Timmons has received one security system price and he will solicit several more.
This reporter asked town attorney Donald Biggs if in his opinion the approved minutes of town board meetings have to be signed by the counselors. He said he has not researched the issue, but in his opinion they do not have to be signed. Several town residents and Counselor Tom Powers have raised this issue. Town Clerk Kathy Flynn stated that signed minutes have historically been placed in a book for the town records. She said she is preparing minutes for signature though she did not know when they would be completed.
Counselor Brandy McDonald reported that the Town Board would recognize the two Peru High School NYS Wresting Champions at its next meeting.
Highway Superintendent Michael Farrell reported that two underground fuel tanks are leaking at the highway garage. The Department of Environmental Conservation will be notified and appropriate action will be taken to replace the tanks.
In other actions the Board:
- Initiated the process for ultimate placement of speed limit signs on all the streets in Quaker Springs.
- Initiated the process for placement of stop signs at the intersection of Maiden Lane, Locust Drive and Holden Avenue. The Board was concerned about the safety of persons standing near the intersection.
The Board entered into Executive Session to discuss land purchase contract proposals and adjourned to pay bills at 7:47 p.m.

Just go by there any evening and you can see the problems. Maybe the State Police could help. At least if they were in the area that might help.
