Clinton County real estate sales show positive trend!
By John T. Ryan
Statistics released by the New York State Association of Realtors (NYSAR) should brighten the spirits of local people with homes to sell. Fifty-eight existing single family homes were sold in Clinton County during June, a 7.8% increase compared to June 2008 and a 81.8% compared to the number of homes sold in May 2009. Clinton County’s May to June improvement was almost three times higher than the state-wide increase of 30%.
NYSAR chief executive officer Duncan R. MacKenzie attributed the sales increase to the $8,000 federal tax credit for first time home buyers. He said, “The tax incentive is turning fence-sitters into homebuyers even though the overall economy continues to struggle.” MacKenzie had additional advice for first time home buyers saying, “New Yorkers who are considering becoming first time homebuyers in 2009 should not delay in the search for their dream home. We anticipate the inventory of entry-level priced homes will tighten as the summer comes to a close. We strongly suggest first time buyers be under contract by October 1 to have the best chance of closing before the December 1st tax credit deadline.”
