Fire Department replaces twenty-two year old pumper
The Peru Volunteer Fire Department upgraded a major piece of equipment on March 6, 2010 when its new American LaFrance pumper arrived. Chief Brian Westover said the pumper replaces a twenty-two year old Pierce Lance model. The American LaFrance will transport eight firefighters, carry 1000 gallons of water, pump 2,000 gallons of water a minute and features a compressed air foam system. The pumper cost just a little over $480,000. Westover said the department tries to replace its trucks after twenty years of use. The department’s two other pumpers are 1994 and 2001 models.
