Town Board Recognizes Arik Robinson for winning the 2010 NYS Wrestling Championship:

By Donald McBrayer

The Peru Town Board held its Regular Meeting on Monday April 13 at 7:00 P.M.

An audio recording of the meeting can be found at: http://d1091839.domain.com/PeruTown/TBM41210.WAV
March Reports from all Departments (except Youth) were approved and can be found at: http://www.perutown.com/town.htm

In other action the Town Board:

  • Passed a Resolution Recognizing Arik Robinson of Peru Central School for winning the 2010 New York State Public High School Athletic Association Division 2 Wrestling Championship, and congratulated him for becoming the first Section 7 three-time state wrestling champion.
  • Set a tentative date for a workshop on May 17th at 6:30 PM to discuss solutions to the Spitfire Drive drainage problem.
  • Passed a Motion to remove the Posted Road Signs.
  • Passed a Motion to re-accept the Town Discrimination & Harassment Policy.
  • Passed a Motion reappointing Peter Glushko as the Harassment Policy Compliance Officer, and Greg Timmons as the Alternate.
  • Passed Resolutions to purchase fire alarm systems for the Highway Garage & Water/Sewer Garage. These systems will be provided by Security Concepts of New York Inc. for the amount of $9307.68 for Highway & $6307.64 for W/S.
  • Approved Motions for updates to the pending Employee Handbook including Computer/Internet Use and Harassment Policies. An updated drug testing policy is also being considered for inclusion upon further review.
  • Passed a Resolution to request an area speed limit for the Quaker Highlands Subdivision. Speed limits may be requested by the town, but are set by the NYS Department of Transportation.
  • The pending Noise Ordinance will be acted upon at the next Town Board Meeting — 4/26/2010.
  • Discussed the issue of paint-ball damage to the area road signs. This seems to be a problem more during the spring season, and considering the average cost of $75 per sign, is becoming a costly one as well. Highway Superintendent, Mike Farrell, said he used up his line-item budget of $2500 for signs in less than a month last year by replacing signs damaged by paint-balls. A request will be sent to the Sheriff Department & State Police to help with this issue.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 P.M.
