Owens Issues Statement in Support of Schumer’s Tax Cut Plan
Congressman Owens Press Release
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Bill Owens issued the following statement in support of Senator Charles Schumer’s plan to offer an extension to the Bush-era tax cuts for those making less than a million dollars annually.
“Senator Schumer’s plan cuts through the partisan noise that has dominated the current debate on the extension of Bush-era tax cuts,” said Owens. “He offers a reasonable compromise that stands to benefit more than 99 percent of Northern and Central New Yorkers while working to cut the national deficit.
“In September, and again recently, when I joined three of my colleagues in the House of Representatives to propose a similar compromise, I believed that it created a strong foundation for a healthy and bipartisan discussion of the issue. With this plan, Senator Schumer has begun a wider conversation that works to provide tax relief to the vast majority of Americans and bring certainty to small business owners that will motivate them to expand and hire locally.
“I am hopeful that this plan will bring both parties together to do what is best for the American people.”
