Northern New York Eating Local Workshops Include Plattsburgh Site

Eating locally grown and raised foods is becoming increasing popular in the North Country. To help “locavores” shop for local products, plan meals, and prepare local vegetable dishes, the Cornell University Cooperative Extension associations of Northern New York have set the dates for the Northern New York Eating Local Yet? summer workshop.

A series of three hands-on classes will be held in Sackets Harbor at The Farm House Kitchen, in Canton at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, and in Plattsburgh at the CV-TEC Culinary Kitchen.

Class instructors include chefs, restaurateurs and nutrition educators. Activities will include cutting up a chicken, making soup stock, learning how to stretch your food dollar with different cuts of meat, and trying latest tips for cooking, storing and serving tasty vegetables.

The workshops will run from 6pm to 9pm each evening as follows:
Week 1: Shopping, Meal Planning and Cooking with Local Foods
Tuesday, June 14 in Sackets Harbor
Wednesday, June 15 in Canton
Thursday, June 16 in Plattsburgh

Week 2: All About Meat
Tuesday, June 21 in Sackets Harbor
Wednesday, June 22 in Canton
Thursday, June 23 in Plattsburgh

Week 3: All About Vegetables
Tuesday, June 28 in Sackets Harbor
Tuesday, June 28 in Canton
Thursday, June 30 in Plattsburgh.

Reservations are required. Participants can attend one workshop for $30 or all three workshops for $75.
