In the first six months of this year, Congressman Bill Owens has worked to secure $730,688.71 in benefits owed to those seeking help from his offices in New York’s 23rd Congressional District. When constituent concerns involve questions about legislation or policy, Owens’ office has responded to 18,606 pieces of correspondence in 2011 alone. “Responding to constituent concerns and helping them to navigate the federal bureaucracy is one of the most important things I can do,” said Owens. “I am very pleased with the level of success we have seen in our ongoing fight to ensure that Upstate New Yorkers have their voices heard in Washington and that they receive the benefits they are due from the federal government.” This year, Owens expanded his outreach campaign by holding three Town Halls, organizing more than 50 mobile office hour events, opening a full-time office in the City of Oneida, and holding two telephone town halls when his duties as a U.S. Representative have kept him away from the district. Owens will hold a third telephone town hall next Tuesday, July 12th. Since being elected to office in November of 2009, Owens has responded to 44,000 pieces of correspondence and secured more than $1.8 million in benefits due for constituents.
