Run for Jon iPhone App Now Available; Proceeds Donated To Jonathan Evans Memorial Fund

PERU, New York–August 25, 2011–The Run for Jon today announced that the Run for Jon (RFJ) iPhone app is available as a download from the iOS App Store for $0.99. The RFJ app provides users witinformation about the history of the Run for Jon, a schedule of events, map of the course, and searchable results for the last 6 years, along with other features. “We are really excited about the Run for Jon iPhone app,” said Shirley Evans, coordinator of the Run for Jon. Created by a local iOS developer with ties to the Evans’ family, all proceeds of the $0.99 app will be donated to the Jonathan Evans Memorial Fund. The fund is used to help the families of local children with serious medical problems.

Features of the Run for Jon app include:

• About the Run, which provides the background of the event;

• Results, which presents the results of previous events;

• Driving Directions, which locates the best route to the Run for Jon;

• Shirts, a look at current and past Run for Jon shirts;

• Sponsors, which conveniently provides a list of event sponsors;

• Contact Us, which makes getting in touch with event coordinators easy.

The Run for Jon is the largest annual running/walking even in the North Country. The goal is to raise money for the families of local children with serious medical problems and honor the memory of Jonathan Evans. In 2010 an outstanding field of runners, joggers, walkers, and baby joggers helped raise approximately $5,000!

In 1990, 13 year-old Jonathan Evans was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Soon after his diagnosis, two long time friends of the Evans family, Mark Elmore and Scott Woodward, organized the first Run for Jon to raise money to help pay for expenses. Just two weeks before the 2nd Run, Jonathan passed away. Every year since then, the family and friends have held the Run for Jon to raise money for the families of local children with serious medical problems.

The 21st annual Run for Jon will be held at 5:00PM on August 27, 2011. The event is held at Forrence Orchards Stafford Farm off Mannix Road in Peru, New York. Registration begins at 3:30PM. Additional information can be found  at www.runforjon.com.
