Death of Peru Senior Brandon Rennert

Flags at Half-Staff This Week as Per District Policy; A Statement from Peru Interim Superintendent A. Paul Scott

Early this morning, Peru Central School District’s crisis intervention team gathered to discuss how the school district can best support the family, student friends and district employees who worked with Peru High School senior Brandon Rennert. Peru Central was informed Brandon died yesterday late afternoon, associated with a vehicular incident. Brandon’s teachers and many others at Peru High School are striving to provide strong support for each of his classmates.

Many other members of the school district crisis intervention team, such as school counselors and school psychologists, are ‘at the ready’ and providing additional support, as needed and requested this week. American flags at Peru Central will be at half-mast for the remainder of this week, in keeping with district policy.

Earlier this morning, Brandon’s teachers and various students described him as well liked at school, having a big heart, friendly to others and quick to offer a ‘hello’. Brandon was described as a bright young man with particular interests and skills in science and technology. Some of his best work was in those two areas of study. It is clear in the words from his classmates that Brandon will be missed, and he will be remembered at Peru Central and at CV-TEC, this region’s career and technical education center.

For the days ahead, Peru Central counselors, teachers, staff and administrators will strive to ‘be there’ for the family of Brandon Rennert and for schoolmates and for district employees who worked with Brandon. Peru Central offers its deep appreciation for the extraordinary care and response from Clinton County Emergency Services, New York State Police, Peru Fire Department and other agencies responding to this tragic incident.
