Fire Department gives life-saving defibrillator to Peru Youth Commission
By John T. Ryan
The Peru Volunteer Fire Department contributes each day to the preservation of life and property in the Town of Peru. On Saturday, June 2nd, the department added to that service commitment with its gift of a defibrillator (AED) to the Peru Youth Commission. Chief Brian Westover made the presentation to Youth Commissioner John Flynn at the Laphams Mills Rd. Athletic Field prior to the Youth Commission’s Baseball and Softball Early Bird Tournament.
Prior to Chief Westover’s presentation, Peru firefighter and former chief Courtney Tetrault told the large number of assembled adults and children about his brother Craig Tetrault passing away at age 45 last October. At that time the Tetrault family requested that all donations in Craig’s memory be made to the Peru Fire Department. A few weeks ago the thought came to Courtney that an AED had extended Craig’s life for a few days and that an AED had saved the life of Peru School Board member David Hall. Tetrault decided to ask his fellow firefighters if they would consider using the money donated in Craig’s memory for purchase of an AED for the Peru Youth Commission. The Fire Department members readily agreed and contributed the extra dollars needed to make the purchase possible.
Craig and Courtney’s mother, Nancy Frechette Tetrault, his sister Lori and several members of the Tetrault and Frechette families were present to witness and celebrate the gift of life in Craig Tetrault’s honor. (Click here for larger photos)
