Thanks to wonderful support, families will continue to be helped

The start of the 2.5 mile run

The 22nd Annual “Run For Jon” was held on Saturday August 25th at Forrence Orchard on the Mannix Rd. in Peru. Over 150 runners, plus participants in the kids fun run and non-competitive walkers helped raise over $4200 for the Jonathan Evans Fund.  The raffle for an iPad 2, donated by Best Buy, raised $460 of that total.

This year’s event was dedicated to Ros Prisciandaro, a coach, teacher and mentor who passed away earlier this summer after her own battle with cancer. Ros donated countless volunteer hours to planning and organizing this important community event.

The “Run for Jon” began twenty-two years ago to honor the memory of Jonathan, “Jonnie” Evans, the bright student, talented runner, and son of Don and Shirley Evans who succumbed to cancer in 1990. The event’s proceeds are used by the Evans family to help other families deal with the overwhelming costs of having a seriously ill child. Over the last two years seventeen families have been helped by the money raised by the Run For Jon.

The overall female and male winners for the 2.5-mile race were: Sarah Dunham in a time of 13:46 and Jeremy Drowne in 12:43. There were numerous awards for the top three male and female winners based on age groups, baby joggers and teams.

The Evans family would like to thank all of those who participated and volunteered in the Run For Jon 2012. Check the Peru Gazette and runforjon.com <http://runforjon.com>  for pictures and complete results.
