Peru is a harvest town these days
At about the same time that Forrence Orchards workers were completing their workday, another harvest was beginning adjacent to the apple orchard. Jamaican workers heading into Peru on their bicycles watched as Adirondack Farms began harvesting corn in a field adjacent to the Barney Downs Rd. The machine operator said the forage harvester cut 6 rows of corn at a time and 50 to 100 acres of corn daily. The machine is powered by a 500 horsepower diesel engine.
Adirondack Farms feeds its 4,000 cows and young cattle by harvesting hay and corn on 4,000 acres in Peru and adjacent communities. Click here for a brief slide show. Click here to see a video of a this machine working on another farm.
