NCCCA Arts Center Offers Theater for Youth Programming with New Twist: New teachers and new theater class for teens
Plattsburgh, N.Y. The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts (NCCCA Arts Center) is pleased to announce the return of its Theater for Youth program that begins on Saturday, September 29th, 2012 at its location on Brinkerhoff Street next to the Historic Strand Theatre.
Theater for Youth classes include, “Fundamentals of Theater,” “The Advanced Performer,” “Character Enhancement,” “The Shakespearean Performer” for ages 8-14 and a new offering called, “Creative Movement and Improvisation” for teens, ages 14-18. Instructors for the Theater for Youth classes will be Scott Gibbs and Deb Vanneman, both from Essex County.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to be working with Scott and Deb,” says Janine Scherline, NCCCA Executive Director. “They bring a new level of experience, professionalism and expertise to the program and we know that the students will benefit greatly.”
Emily Owens, NCCCA Education Coordinator adds, “Their enthusiasm for working with youth and passion for theatre is evident. We are really looking forward to the start of classes and the continuation of the Theater for Youth Program this fall.”
Scott Gibbs is a recently retired English and Humanities teacher who taught at Westport Central School for 33 years. He has directed over 30 plays, including drama club productions, senior plays and also has 10 years of experience directing the Depot Theatre’s summer Shakespeare-In-The-Park productions.
Deb Vanneman is a recent transplant to Jay, NY and joins the NCCCA theater staff following her recent retirement from the Rancocas Valley Regional High School district in Mt. Holly, NJ. She has 30 years of experience in various roles including director, producer, theatre instructor, musical director and accompanist and has also toured her award-winning choral and theater ensembles through England, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria and France.

The Arts Center is open Tuesday through Friday, 10am to 5pm and on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. The Main Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am-3pm.
