Congressman Bill Owens Weighs In on Border Patrol Air Wing at Plattsburgh International Airport
Washington – This week, Congressman Bill Owens called on U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) to work with Plattsburgh International Airport and Clinton County to reach an agreement that will maintain CBP’s presence at the airport. U.S. CBP’s Air Wing has occupied hangar space at Plattsburgh International Airport since 2004. Plattsburgh International Airport recently completed a multi-million dollar hangar renovation project and is actively seeking additional tenants, while CBP’s lease at their current site is set to expire in November.
“CBP’s presence along the Northern Border has obvious local and national security implications, and their expanding operation has benefited growth at the airport as well as local job creation,” Owens said.
“It’s encouraging that CBP has indicated a desire to stay in Plattsburgh, and I urge them to make every effort to preserve their mission and take advantage of one of the newly renovated hangars at Plattsburgh Airport.”
Congressman Owens has been in regular contact with CBP throughout the year regarding their presence at this facility. The Department of Homeland Security’s Northern Border Air Wing supports border security operations while conducting regular missions in coordination with state, local and Canadian agencies.
