Fines for unleased dogs may increase
By Donald McBrayer
Town Supervisor Peter Glushko informed the board of an incident involving a bicyclist who was bitten by a dog on Rt.22 just outside the hamlet. This being the second incident in less than a month involving dangerous unleashed dogs, Glushko suggested an increase in the $25 minimum amount dog owner can be fined for an unleashed dog.
When asked if the current law has been enforced Glushko pointed out that when a citation is issued the fine is mandatory. Glushko also made the point that the leash law is going to be more strictly enforced. He stated, “Even one incident involving dangerous animals is one too many.”
Any increase to the minimum fine amount will be determined at a later meeting.
In other business the Town Board:
- Passed two resolutions to reward bids to replace fencing around the Town Hall in the amount of $3,615.00
- Discussed a culvert needing repair on Fuller Road.
- Discussed the progress on the Walking Trail at the Heyworth/Mason Park. Supervisor Glushko informed the board the metal bridge needs repairs before any other work can be done. Glushko also mentioned speaking with someone who was caught driving a car on the walk path encircling the park. He reminded everyone that the path is not for motor vehicle use of any kind.
- Scheduled a workshop for the New Zoning Law for Thursday, May 30th at 6:30PM.
- Announced the Summer Concert Series at the Gazebo starting June 30th.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50PM.
