The Strand Center for the Arts Announces Audition Dates for ‘The Last 5 Years’
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 2, 2015) – The Strand Center for the Arts announces auditions for Jason Robert Brown’s musical ‘The Last Five Years’ at the historic Strand Theatre on Sunday, April 12 from 2 to 6 pm. The musical will be produced in association with Adirondack Regional Theatre.
There are two sides to every love story. From first date to final good-bye, ‘The Last Five Years’ chronicles the highs and lows of modern marriage in an intimate, honest and richly moving musical portrait. Through the course of 14 songs, rising novelist Jamie and struggling actress Cathy separately tell their own account of their five-year relationship. From the whimsical optimism of Jamie’s “Shiksa Goddess” to Cathy’s crushingly vulnerable “Still Hurting,” the young lovers explore their emotionally complex romance through Brown’s beautifully haunting music and original, ingenious lyrics.
Auditions will be held at the Strand Theatre, 25 Brinkerhoff Street in Plattsburgh on Sunday, April 12 from 2-6 pm. Auditioners are asked to prepare a song and provide the sheet music, or to sing a song a cappella. A short monologue should also be prepped. Auditioners might also be asked to read from the script. The audition staff will be casting only two roles:
Catherine Haitt – Age: 20’s – 30’s. Catherine is a struggling actress/singer in NYC. Beautiful and fun loving, she labors through low-paying, out-of-town gigs while trying to keep her failing relationship with her successful boyfriend intact. Excellent actress with a strong pop/rock belt. Range: F3 – D#5
Jamie Wellerstein – Age: 20’s – 30’s. Very handsome, intelligent writer. Witty and charming, things seem to easily fall into place for Jamie. Though madly in love with his new girlfriend, he chooses to focus his energy on his budding career and enjoys every moment. Excellent actor with a strong pop/rock tenor voice. Range: A2 – Bb4
