PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Strand Center for the Arts is proud to announce its annual Summer Members Show on view in the Main Gallery at 23 Brinkerhoff Street from July 3^rd to July 31^st, 2015. The Summer Members Opening Reception will take place Friday July 3^rd from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and is open to the public. 

Yearly, The Strand Center welcomes works from its members for the Summer Members Show. This collaborative exhibition features a breadth of work including photography, sculpture, painting, pastels, ceramics, stained glass, printmaking and drawing. The exhibition will also feature a special selection of Andrea Knight’s work to commemorate past artist members.

Museum Coordinator Christina Elliott stated, “So many of these artists work and live beside us every day but are quite humble about their talent. The Summer Members Show is when they really come out of the woodwork and astonish us with their diverse concentrations of skill.”

Jerry Seguin, an SCA Ceramics Instructor, will also be hosting a Raku Pottery Firing demonstration during the opening reception. This distinctive type of pottery is fired in an outdoor kiln and then exposed to organic materials to create unique pattern and texture in the glaze. Information will also be provided about the Jackie Sabourin Clay Studio and current clay classes available at The Strand Center.

The opening reception of the Summer Members Show is also a First Weekends Art Walk event. There performance by local band “Kevin O’Hara and Friends” during the Opening Reception of the Summer Members Show sponsored by First Weekends. This family friendly rock-jam band will be performing on the front lawn of The Strand Center, on the corners of Brinkerhoff and Margaret Streets, in order to help facilitate and entertain Art Walk foot traffic coming in and out of the Main Gallery. 

The Summer Members Show will be on view from July 3^rd to July 31^st, 2015. The exhibition opening is Friday July 3^rd from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and is also paired with the July Coloring Contest also on view in the front hallway and the First Weekends in Plattsburgh Art Walk. This event is free to the public and refreshments will be served.
