Cost of Repair is Being Determined
By John T. Ryan
The Peru Town Board has been discussing the future use of the Jenkins Street tennis courts for the past several months. Installing pickleball courts and even the sale of the property have been mentioned. The courts have been closed since the appearance of two sinkholes raised safety concerns. A multitude of repair costs have been mentioned. Finally, at its Monday, June 27, 2016 meeting the Board authorized consulting engineering Peter Gibbs to estimate of the repair costs.
This morning Peter Gibbs conducted his examination. The base/fill materials consisted of sand, large rocks, ashes and a few metal objects. Gibbs is expected to present his analysis at the Town Board’s July 11, 2016 meeting.
Town Councilman Donald McBrayer and Grant Writer Adele Douglas observed today’s activity. Douglas carried a drawing depicting one pickleball court, a lawn area and six new parking spots adjacent to the very narrow Jenkins Street.
Chad Frechette of the Peru Water and Sewer Department operated the backhoe today. Chad is one fine equipment operator!
