Liberty’s Service Station Owner Passes Away

James’ Story

James E. “Jim” Champagne, 60, of the Lake Shore Road, Chazy, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at the UVM Health Network, CVPH, Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh, Nov. 1, 1955, the son of Elvey L. and Audrey M. (Neverette) Champagne.
Jim worked for Church Oil for 22 years prior to purchasing Liberty’s Garage in Peru on July 1, 1995. He absolutely loved going to work every day and cherished his customers and employees. He enjoyed nature and was fond of his pets.
Left to cherish the memory of Jim are: his loving wife of 38 years, Karen S. Champagne; mother-in-law, Ruby E. Hughes; sisters-in-law, Karla Seymour and husband Edmund, Kathy Trahan and husband Mark, and Kristie Wetzel; nieces, Bailey Trahan, Lindsay Grindle and husband Michael, Meagan Giroux, and Nicole Fisher and husband Charles; and nephews, Ryan Seymour, and Jeffrey Langlois. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law and sister-in-law, Howard D. Hughes and Kim L. Sykora.
Relatives and friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 3, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Memorial Service will follow at noon in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Robert Svenson officiating. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the Ingraham Cemetery in Chazy.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Elmore SPCA, PO Box 686, Peru, NY 12972 and/or the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, 212 Cornelia Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Jim Champagne loved Peru and its people. Every time I entered his business I looked forward to speaking with him. His warm greeting and wonderful smile made my day. He was a man/businessman i could trust. I will miss him so very, very much!

So sad to hear this. He was a good man and always had a smile. He sure did love Peru and the people. Thoughts and prayers to his family. He will be missed.

Jim always made you feel you were a special customer. A smile was always on his face. It is a very big loss to the community. To his family I can feel some of your pain. Thanki you for sharing Jim with the community. He touched many lives with his kindness and caring
