Day of Caring returns to the Adirondack Region Community Members Urged to Give Back this April
Plattsburgh, NY – 2/15/17 – On Saturday, April 29, 2017 the United Way of the Adirondack Region is once again teaming up with Project H.E.L.P. at SUNY Plattsburgh and the Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau for the Annual Day of Caring. Each year, this volunteer-driven event brings together local businesses, organizations, clubs and individuals to help regional nonprofit human service agencies and nonprofit attractions accomplish a variety of projects. During the last Day of Caring, more than 606 volunteers completed over 57 projects including facility improvements, senior citizen housework, neighborhood cleanups, enhancing attractions, bottle drives, food drives, building ramps, insulating walls, painting for non-profit organizations, helping move furniture, yard work for senior citizens and more.
United Way of the Adirondack Region is now seeking projects and volunteers throughout Clinton, Franklin and Essex counties for the 2017 Day of Caring. Focused on addressing some of the urgent needs facing our community, this event gives volunteers a firsthand look at these needs while carrying on the tradition of giving back to the community.
With an anticipated high number of volunteers, the 2017 Day of Caring will put every one of them to good use at as many sites as they can. Kathy Snow, Director of Development for United Way of the Adirondack Region stated, “Through the Day of Caring volunteers have the opportunity to serve agencies and individuals in their very own town. The day is truly a neighbors helping neighbors event. It is giving Local people that are community minded the opportunity to help Local people and agencies…that’s Living United. The Day of Caring is a celebration of volunteerism and being able to advance the mission of United Way of the Adirondack Region, Inc.”
Project H.E.L.P. at SUNY Plattsburgh had over 450 students volunteer last year. “Project H.E.L.P. at SUNY is honored to be a partner in the Day of Caring once again this year. With hundreds of student volunteers contributing to the Plattsburgh community throughout the year, this event is an unique opportunity to see this commitment to service in action on a large scale. We anticipate a significant turnout by SUNY Plattsburgh students during this annual event and we look forward to helping to continue to improve the Plattsburgh campus and community.” said Allison Swick-Duttine, Director of Fraternity/Sorority Life at SUNY Plattsburgh.
If you have a project you would like to submit for consideration or would like to volunteer, please fill out the Day of Caring application available on the United Way of the Adirondack Region website at unitedwayadk.org. Projects are due by March 31, 2017.
