Batter up!
By John T. Ryan
Clouds and light rain didn’t keep a huge group of parents, grandparents and others from attending this morning’s Peru Youth Commission and Clinton County Opening Day Ceremonies at Laphams Mills Park. Clinton County Youth Bureau Recreation Director Molly Flynn and teams from neighboring communities are participating in today’s activities.
Peru Youth Director John Flynn and Youth Commission Chairman Greg Mills thanked the many coaches and volunteers who make the Peru programs so successful. Flynn had special words of praise for Mike Madore who has volunteered countless hours over several years. Madore was given the honor of throwing the first pitch of the 2017 season.
Peru has over 200 youths participating in its 6-week Summer Activities Program which includes baseball softball, tennis, arts, crafts and summer soccer. Twenty youth are also hired to run each activity under the instruction of an adult supervisor.
Over 300 youths have registered for the Youth Commission’s Fall Soccer Program. More information on that program will be provided later in the year.
