Peru Health Mart to Close – Kinney Drugs Will Open
By John T. Ryan
Peru – A major change in Peru’s business community will take place in a few weeks. Having served Peru and neighboring communities for 41 years, Peru Health Mart Pharmacy will officially close at the end of business on Saturday, September 30th and on Sunday, October 1st, it will reopen as Kinney Drugs. All prescription records will be transferred to Kinney Drugs.
Peru Health Mart patients were notified of the change in a letter dated August 11, 2017 and signed by Larry Shanley and Marcia Shanley. Larry Shanley explained that he has decided to enter full retirement in October and that his son Larry Shanley Jr., who has served as Supervising Pharmacist for the last 10 years, has decided to move on and seek a new chapter in his career. Other staff members will become part of the Kinney Drugs team.
The letter described Kinney Drugs extensive product offerings and services including its “Love Local” program which promotes regionally produced goods, something that Peru Health Mart has always done. Larry Shanley stated, “I feel that Kinney Drugs shares our philosophy on patient care and community service and I think you’ll find their people to be a natural fit here in Peru.”
Kinney Drugs Senior Director of Marketing and Advertising Judy Cowden said, “Peru Health Mart’s patients will be soon receiving a welcome letter from us.” The pharmacy will undergo reorganization to fit the Kinney merchandising plan during October, but will remain open for business. A Major Grand Opening is tentatively scheduled for November 1, 2017.
