Town to Change Software Providers
Highlights of the Peru Town Board meeting of November 27, 2017
The Board voted to enter into an 8-year software contract with Logics Solutions LLC. The Logics’ software will replace the software the town has been using for the past 9-10 years. Deteriorating KVS software support has been the issue. The software is used for town finance (budgeting and payroll), plus water and sewer billing.
The 8-year cost is $70,800 if the software is located on the town hall server and $104,000 if located in the cloud. Cloud storage has several advantages including fewer hardware issues and easy access from any location. Supervisor Peter Glushko preferred placing the software on the town server citing potential difficulties in determing the exact cause of any problems. Counselor Jim Langley preferred using the cloud saying it works very well in his business, but he was amenable to trying it on the server. The software location will be evaluated after 12 months.
Online fundraising for the Sullivan Park skating rink/basketball court has begun. The cost has been estimated at approximately $20,000. The New York State Health Foundation will match individual donations of up to $1,000 and total donations of up to $10,000. (Look for a future Peru Gazette story on this effort)
Water Superintendent Courtney Tetrault reported that the water tower mixer is broken. Tetrault stated the relatively new mixer is not worth repairing. It was installed during the recent water system upgrade, but the guarantee period has expired. Tetrault is researching alternatives. The mixer keeps the water turning over and helps maintain the proper water chemistry especially during the summer months.
At the request of Clinton County Emergency Services a resolution was passed to change the name of the Stoney Hill Road to the Burnt Hill Road. The change was made to reduce confusion for emergency responders and the public. It should improve 911 service.
A 2018 contract is being negotiated between the town and IT consultant Patrick Garsow.
The board authorized hiring Tyler Jarvis as a highway department equipment operator at a rate of $16.55 per hour. Jarvis will begin work on January 9, 2018 with a 90-day probationary period.
The annual Town of Peru Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will take place on Friday, December 1st at 6:45 p.m. Pete and Karen Glushko will be lighting the tree.
The Parks Department will spend $1,680 for ten new polycarbonate Christmas banners. Money for the banners was included in the department’s budget.
At the recommendation of Supervisor-elect Brandy McDonald, the 2018 Organizational meeting was scheduled for January 2, 2018 at 1 p.m.
