Broadband Will Soon Reach All Peru Residents
March 1, 2018 Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that $65.9 million in New NY Broadband Program Round III grants have been awarded in the North Country. Peru will receive the highest amount totaling $9,441,335 in grants and other funding serving 2,363 locations. The Peru Gazette has contacted Governor Cuomo’s representative to gather more details.
These awards will drive more than $104.6 million of public-private broadband investment and provide 33,193 homes a…nd other locations in the region with access to high-speed internet. The grants were awarded as part of the third and final round of the program, fulfilling the Governor’s promise to connect all New Yorkers to high-speed internet for the first time in state history.
In total, 10 awarded projects will address unserved territories in the North Country. Nearly 1,450 miles of broadband infrastructure will be deployed, providing residents and companies across the region with access to new economic opportunitie s. When the New NY Broadband Program was launched in 2015, 80 percent of North Country residents – over 177,000 locations – lacked access to broadband.
