Gallery Cooperative Featured Artist Lorrie Mandigo at The Strand Center for the Arts in September

PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Strand Center for the Arts is pleased to announce painter Lorrie Mandigo as the featured artist in their Gallery Cooperative for the month of September. This forthcoming exhibit will take place in The Strand Center Community Gallery on Friday, September 7 and a free reception will be held from 5:30-7:30 PM that night.

The Gallery Cooperative is a collection of artists, each expert at their chosen medium. This means that as well as the featured artist, Lorrie Mandigo, painters Amy Guglielmo, Marilyn Kretser, Donna Austin, Judy Guglielmo, and Carol Hochreiter will be present. In addition, these artists will be joined by pastel artist Diane Leifheit, digital artist Sandy Fox, and photographers Ron Nolland and Denise Duprey.

Lorrie Mandigo was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, in 1965, the youngest of four siblings and the daughter of a military father in the Air Force. Mandigo’s love and appreciation for the visual arts began to blossom during her younger years while residing in Germany. Although visiting other “art rich” countries, such as France, Spain, Italy and Austria, was extremely inspiring, her largest influence came from a junior high school art teacher, Catherine Jones Davies. Miss Davies’ continued guidance and reassurance would be the key element in Mandigo’s drive to pursue her passion in painting and teaching. Mandigo graduated in 1986 with an A.A.S. in Advertising Design from Cazenovia College, located in Cazenovia, N.Y., and in 2015 graduated with a B.A. with a concentration in painting from SUNY Plattsburgh, Plattsburgh, N.Y. Since then, her work has been on exhibition at the Pouring Light Gallery in Malone, N.Y., Myers Lobby Gallery at SUNY Plattsburgh, The Strand Art Center Gallery in Plattsburgh and also in her own studio and gallery at 30 Broad St., Plattsburgh.

A unique attribute of Mandigo’s artistic skills is her ability to paint in different media, such as acrylic paints and alcohol ink. However, her medium of choice at present is oil paint. Concerning her work with this medium, Mandigo stated: “I enjoy the blending quality of oil paint and the slower drying times that allow me to revisit a piece day after day.”

Concerning Mandigo’s work, the gallery director at The Strand Center for the Arts, David Monette, stated; “I love the fact that we have Lorrie’s work in our gallery, and just in general to have her as a member of the Cooperative. Her realistic painting style is at once so whimsical, yet well-conceived. It’s great to have her paintings featured in the gallery along with our other, talented artists.”

This unique exhibit will be on view in The Strand Center Community Gallery at 23 Brinkerhoff Street in Plattsburgh from September 7 to September 28, 2018. The exhibition opening is Friday, September 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. This event is free to the public and refreshments will be served. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.
