The Strand Center’s Juried Show “The Nature of Things” Opens Friday, October 5
PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Strand Center for the Arts annually hosts a juried show open to artists of all ages and mediums. This year, the theme of the show is “The Nature of Things” and participants were encouraged to submit artwork that strikes to the heart of the theme of nature and art and how the two interact.
“The Nature of Things,” will be on view in The Strand Center Community Gallery at 23 Brinkerhoff Street in Plattsburgh from October 5 to October 26, 2018. The Opening Reception will take place Friday, October 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM and is free and open to the public.
Entries were received in various kinds of artistic mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, jewelry, ceramics, stained glass, printmaking, mixed media, and digital design. Over thirty local artists submitted their work for the competition in the hopes of winning a large cash prize and a solo exhibit at The Strand Center Gallery. Awards for Best in Show, Second Place, and Honorable Mentions will be announced during the Opening Reception on Friday, October 5, 2018.
The Strand Center is excited to have the artist and SUNY Plattsburgh professor, Norman Taber, as their guest juror this year. Norman Taber graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.F.A., and an M.F.A. from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Taber began his artistic career as an illustrator and now, in addition to editorial illustration, poster design, company logos, and other publications, he works on children’s books with his wife, Tory Taber.
