Governor Announces Suspension of Road and Bridge Construction to Ease Traffic Throughout the July 4th Holiday

Construction Suspended to Minimize Traffic Disruptions during Peak Travel Times

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended from 6 a.m. on Thursday, July 4 to 6 a.m. on Monday, July 8 to accommodate travelers during the busy Independence Day holiday.

Motorists should be aware that some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs. The construction suspension aligns with Governor Cuomo’s Drivers First initiative, which prioritizes the convenience of motorists to minimize traffic congestion and travel delays due to road and bridge work.

“With a record number of travelers expected to hit the road this Independence Day, we’re doing all we can to ease traffic and help New Yorkers get to their holiday destinations safely,” Governor Cuomo said. “During this time of celebration, it is imperative that motorists remain alert on the roads and do not drive distracted. Take a break at a rest stop or parking area, or use the text stops – it’s not worth putting your life and the lives of others at risk.”

Governor Cuomo is urging motorists to follow the state’s Move Over Law, which requires motorists to slow down and safely move over for law enforcement vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, tow trucks and construction or maintenance vehicles that are stopped along roads across the state.
