By John T. Ryan
Sept. 9 Peru – The Peru Planning Board approved Stewart’s site plan on August 28, 2019. Within a few hours construction of Stewart’s Shops new 3,634 sq. ft. store was underway. This morning Fuller Construction was pumping concrete for the foundation while Peru Code Enforcement Officer Bob Guynup observed. Guynup said, “Stewart’s said the new building will be finished in 8 weeks. They plan on opening Wednesday, November 6th.” The adjacent existing store will be demolished after the new shop opens.
Stewart’s ensures that construction is done to its specifications. Tom Lloyd of OCQA Laboratories Inc. was on hand to check the concrete for moisture and air content. It must fall within certain limits to ensure strength and longevity. He also took samples that will be analyzed after the concrete hardens.
