Guma’s Restaurant & Catering in West Chazy Closing
April 15, 2020, Facebook post
Another hard day has hit our Guma’s family. As this terrible virus has taken its toll on so many, it has also taken its toll on us. We are very saddened to announce that as of April 25th we will be closing.
This has been a very difficult decision for us and we have tried to make all of this madness work for everyone, but the math just doesn’t add up. Our employees who have kept working with half or less of their hours will be MUCH better off with us closing. The crashing unemployment system will not allow them to file for partial benefits and the partial sales don’t allow me to do anything more for them either. Unable to navigate how long this will all last, closing seems to be the best option for everyone.
With all of the above being said, this also gives us cause to evaluate our future at Guma’s. Last year we chose to cut our hours to give us more time to focus on our personal lives. 25 years of spending every Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas Eve, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and so on, all at work, has taken its toll as well. As our family grows and priorities change with our age, we have REALLY reevaluated the importance of TIME and this pandemic has made it more evident than ever.
After very serious consideration and everyone’s individual needs being considered, we have made the decision that April 25th will be our FINAL closing date as well.
We would like to sincerely thank our LOYAL staff, our AMAZING customers and community for the last 25 years. None of this would have been possible without you!
The fate of the Guma’s building will be in our very near future plans as we navigate through this very difficult transition. To any gift card holders, we encourage you to use them before we close. You may order pies, jams, jelly or pastries with them as well. We will be honoring them at our other business, UDDER DELIGHT DAIRY SHOP, until the end of this season as well. To anyone who purchased one since this pandemic started, we will gladly refund you. Again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support. IT’S BEEN A GOOD RUN!
❤️Jerry, Lisa & Guma

First, Thank you Jerry, Lisa, Guma and family for all your hard work and awesome food you’ve provided over the last 25 years. You always went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. I understand you wanting to spend more time with family and friends. Life is too short and we’re not getting any younger. Good luck with all your future plans. Enjoy your retirement, and whatever you choose to do. God Bless!
