Although New York has been the hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic, the state’s death and hospitalization rates are going down. Numbers are looking better in some corners of the U.S. as much of the country debates how to move forward with battling COVID-19. More than two-thirds of Americans worry their states are reopening too quickly, according to a poll from Pew Research Center, while protestors have taken to the streets in other states to demand reopening.
Here’s what else you need to know about COVID-19 in the U.S.:
• There have been more than 1.2 million coronavirus cases and over 77,000 deaths.
• Experts have said reopening too soon could lead to another wave of the pandemic, but it could be weeks before the impact is seen.
• Dozens of children in New York have been hospitalized with a condition doctors described as “pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome.” Most of them tested positive for coronavirus or had positive antibody tests.
