COVID-19 December 23 Updates

COVID-19 Vaccine Updates

More vaccines are coming to New York every day- 346,000 Moderna vaccines are coming this week and 120,000 more Pfizer doses are arriving this week.

New York expects to have a total of 630,000 total doses by this week.

This week, New York increases the priority populations that the hospitals will be allowed to administer to include:

  • Federally qualified health center workers
  • EMTs
  • Coroners
  • Medical examiners
  • Funeral home workers
  • Other congregate care workers and residents
This week New York also started the federal program to vaccinate nursing home residents and staff -residents and staff – in nursing homes.

New York has worked with the pharmacies and the federal government: CVS is going to do 271, Walgreens 253, other pharmacies 94.

There are 618 nursing homes that are enrolled in the program.

New York is also putting together vaccination kits that can be sent throughout the state that are fully contained to do vaccinations for a community.

They are called community vaccination kits and everything you need will be contained in one shipping container.

You can send the shipping container right to a public housing authority, to a church, to a community center, to anywhere in the state and it will contain computers, IT, medicines, wall dividers, tables, chairs, schematic for how to set up the space.

General COVID-19 Updates

As the holidays approach, please remember that the most common way New Yorkers are contracting COVID-19 is through small gatherings, or what is commonly called living room spread.

Please protect yourself and your loved ones this holiday season and practice social distancing.

There is also a new strain of COVID-19 spreading in the United Kingdom causing the country to lockdown.

In response, British Airways, Delta, and Virgin Atlantic have agreed to require all passengers flying from the United Kingdom to New York to complete pre-boarding COVID-19 testing.

New E-books and Audiobooks Available for CVES Students

The Champlain Valley Educational Services School Library System and Clinton-Essex-Franklin Library System have partnered to increase access to more e-books and e-audiobooks for area students.
The collaboration includes all CVES school districts that are part of the CEFLS service area.

Students can now borrow age-appropriate digital titles from the public library system, in addition to those offered to their school district through CVES.

Both the school and public library collections can be searched through the Sora app using one login.

Students can install Sora from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or by visiting their website here.

All students attending a CVES component district have a login ID and can contact their school librarian for this information.

Students in area districts can also access OverDrive eBooks, eAudiobooks and educational videos via this site using their Sora login ID.

Residents in Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties can also access titles from the CEFLS eBook and eAudiobook collection using their library cards at this website.

If you don’t have a library card, you can contact your local library to apply.

Visit this site for contact information.
