Peru’s Wine and Spirits Store Under New Ownership
By John T. Ryan
One of Peru’s oldest businesses is under new ownership and has a new name. Swain’s Liquor Store is now Livations (not Libations; Livations). On May 1, 2021, Scott Hite and Mary Ann Cayea became the new owners. Bonnie Trost owned and operated the store since May 19, 2015. Marge and Don Swain opened the store on Main Street in 1973 in the building now occupied by Dr. Thomas Lamar. The Swains moved the store to the plaza in 1976.
Scott Hite and Mary Ann Cayea are delighted to be operating in Tops Plaza. Scott commented, “We had been looking for a small business. I put it on Facebook. Realtor Kathy Bennett saw it. She knew that Bonnie was interested in selling and contacted us. It didn’t take long to decide. Bonnie had built up a great business.”
Customers will find Scott in the store more often than Mary Ann. He’s a retired NYS Trooper, while she’s a CVPH nurse. Mary Ann’s daughter Brett Campbell is the store manager.
Scott talked about their business philosophy. “We’re old school. We want to talk and get to know people. We want a family atmosphere here.”
Hite and Cayea are advertising on social media. Scott said, “We’ll be offering deals on Facebook and Instagram. People will know what to expect.” Anyone stopping by this past weekend couldn’t help but notice the Sangria special.
Mary Ann commented, “We’re still honoring Bonnie’s 15% senior citizen discount. We’ve added some wines and tequilas. We’ve taken customers’ suggestions, and they’re working. We’ll also order items upon request.”
Livations is open the same hours as Swains: Monday – Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday Noon to 5 p.m. Call 518-643-2323.
