Mazel Tov Cocktail Party is the latest over-the-top project of two brilliant music artists, clarinetist David Krakauer and composer-pianist Kathleen Tagg. Created during the Covid-19 pandemic in response to the current climate of fear, polarization and negativity pervading our daily lives, Mazel Tov Cocktail Party is a “good vibes explosion”― a special occasion during these uncertain times for all of us to come together to celebrate our common humanity.

Spearheaded by world-music superstar David Krakauer and producer extraordinaire Kathleen Tagg, Mazel Tov Cocktail Party showcases an international crew of high-octane musicians. “Ebullient clarinet wizard” (Time Out NY) Krakauer is godfather to Tagg’s quirky keys and production, Iranian dynamo Martin Shamoonpour’s hand drumming, jazz guru Jerome Harris’s driving bass, rapper Sarah MK’s trenchant rhymes, and oud- and guitar-meister Yoshie Fruchter’s sinuous lines. In addition, Jeremy Flower and Selwa Abd (aka Bergsonist) produced beats to round out the sound for layering with the live performance.

Together they bring enormous musical and cultural diversity to the project, as well as a collaborative spirit in the creation of powerful original material. Their influences are global, but the sound they collectively create is uniquely their own. Their music celebrates old forms by expanding the conversation to include new discussions and issues facing our world today. Familiar dance forms such as Polka and Square Dance never sounded like this before! ― with hand drumming, propulsive electronic beats, lyrics calling for catharsis and positivity, deep grooves, and Krakauer’s wailing clarinet crying out for us to come together, to celebrate and feel the power and joy of being alive in this moment.
