Peru’s Traditional Family Restaurant Reopens (Please share)

Peru – To the delight of many people, Green Acres Restaurant reopened for business on November 3rd. after being closed since October 3rd. Owner Donna Rowley is in the kitchen alongside her new cook Andrea Dampier, and waitress Chelsea Taylor is back in the dining room. On October 25th, Rowley commented on her Facebook page, “I’ve been cleaning and painting and realized I couldn’t imagine anyone else at Green Acres..my baby, my love. Please Be patient. We need baby steps to see how this will work.”
When the Peru Gazette visited last Saturday, the restaurant was gradually filling up. Longtime Peru resident Tony Tyrell was sitting at a corner table with a group of friends, including Greg Brunet, who remarked, “I like the food, I like the people, and I like the atmosphere here.” The aroma emanating from the kitchen enticed your reporter to order his old favorite two eggs over easy accompanied by corned beef hash and Green’s Acres super thick wheat toast.
Donna Rowley commented, “We’re going to go easy at first to see how things go. There’s still a ‘For Sale’ sign out front. The owner listed the building for six months, but we’re back in business.” Waitress Chelsea Taylor was ready to return when Rowley called. Chelsea commented, “I’ve worked here for over two years. I didn’t want to work anywhere else. I love it here.”
Many Peru and area residents are undoubtedly pleased with the reopening of this family restaurant. A photo the Peru Gazette posted last Saturday reached thousands of people. People realize that Green Acres Restaurant is an essential part of the Peru community. Welcome back, Green Acres, and may you enjoy every success!
