An unexpected gift from DOT

Photos of Peru’s new State Route 22 – Maiden Lane stop sign. NYS DOT installed the sign yesterday morning without notifying town officials.
A witness said some cars stopped and others didn’t. At one time, traffic was backed up a small distance.

Why???-this doesn’t make sense to me. It’s a right turn-no cross-traffic-how many will get rear-ended trying to comply? Will it mean more ticket revenue for NYS?
