Assemblyman Billy Jones (D-Chateaugay Lake) announced that construction on the Harison Place Project in Malone has begun. The project will create an affordable, mixed-use complex with 40 apartments and five commercial spaces in the Franklin County village of Malone.
“I’m excited to be here for the groundbreaking of construction for the new Harison Place Project coming to the Village of Malone,” said Assemblyman Jones. “This project was undertaken to further expand the affordable housing stock here in the North Country. The development of Harison Place will provide stable, affordable housing to families that need it most and help to revitalize the downtown area. This project will anchor the economic development and revitalization of Malone that will bring more opportunities to local residents, and I will continue to work with state agencies and our communities to bring more projects like these to our region.”
The $21.7 million project is beginning construction following demolishing five blighted buildings in the area. Harison Place will be affordable to households making 60% or less of the area median income, allowing the four-story building to be accessible to as many as possible. Of the 40 total apartments, half will be reserved for households needing individualized support services, funded through the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative and administered by the New York State Office of Mental Health.
