Peru has experience with A Canine Gem
In 2021, A Canine Gem Rescue Inc. operated a dog kennel on Bear Swamp Rd. in Peru. Dog Control Officer Bob Guynup, the Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Peru Town Court enforced the zoning law, which did not permit a dog kennel in that location, forcing the facility to close. A growing accounting practice owns the building today.
Today’s Press-Republican reports that A Canine Gem located on Ashley Road in Beekmantown could be charged with twenty-five counts of NYS Ag. and Markets law violations for the condition of its dogs and forty-five counts for the facility itself. Authorities removed forty-nine dogs from the facility. Sheriff David Favro called it a horrible situation, with malnutrition being one of the biggest concerns.
Here is a notice the Peru Gazette posted on October 6, 2021.
The Peru Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing on the following matters on October 20, 2021, at 7 p.m. in the Peru Town Hall.
Applicant A. Canine Gem Rescue Inc. seeks an appeal of the Code Enforcement Officer’s allegation that the applicant is operating a dog kennel without Town Zoning approval at Tax Map parcel 280.-1-32.3 located at 692 Bear Swamp Rd.
