Clinical Pharmacist Honored With BEE Award
Vincent Ludewig Recognized for Extraordinary Teamwork
PLATTSBURGH, NY (05/17/2024) – Whether it’s a broken arm, undergoing a procedure, battling cancer or recovering from an illness, patients rely on the Inpatient Pharmacy at The University of Vermont Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) to get the medications they need to feel better. Teamwork is critical in filling the many prescription orders that come in throughout the day, and that is why Clinical Pharmacist Vincent Ludewig, RPh has been named the hospital’s newest BEE (Beyond Exceptional Everyday) Award recipient.
Ludewig, who has been at CVPH for nearly two decades, was presented with the award during a surprise ceremony with his pharmacy colleagues as part of National Hospital Week celebrations. He is the hospital’s fourth employee to receive the honor since it’s inception last year.
“Vincent excels anywhere he works. For many years, he worked directly in the Emergency Department as a clinical pharmacist. Now, he works in the Inpatient Pharmacy and provides the same dedication to staff in our department, nurses, providers and most importantly, our patients,” writes Allison Hoff, Pharmacy Supervisor at CVPH, in her nomination of Ludewig.
Hoff adds that Ludewig is always offering to lend a hand to co-workers, whether it’s by picking up extra hours or providing guidance with a calm demeanor during the most hectic days. “We have a number of new staff in the pharmacy. Vince has been a primary trainer for the pharmacists, but this doesn’t stop him from answering questions from new and seasoned staff on a daily basis,” she explains. Ludewig is known as someone people can turn to when challenging cases arise.
“Many times, providers call and ask for Vince by name when they have pharmacy questions,” Hoff continues. “His clinical knowledge is second to none. Our staff, when faced with a difficult case, will run it by Vince to check themselves. I find myself doing the same.” Hoff credits Ludewig with helping ensure the pharmacy department runs smoothly, keeping everything on track to ensure inpatients at the hospital get the medications they need in a timely manner.
During the award presentation, Ludewig was presented with a certificate commending him for his extraordinary work. He, like all honorees, also received a BEE Award pin, a beautiful and meaningful sculpture and a basket filled with bee-themed gifts.
All CVPH employees who support patient care by working together with physicians and registered nurses to improve the physical, emotional and spiritual health of patients and their loved ones are eligible for the BEE Award. Nomination forms and boxes are located at each of the hospital’s main entrances and on the CVPH website. Support staff may be nominated by patients, families and colleagues. A committee reviews nominations and awards a deserving employee each quarter.
