Peru Central School enrolled 2,146 students this September. When school closed this past June the school had 2,122 students. There are 143 students enrolled in kindergarten this September. In June 2008, the kindergarten enrollment was 141 students.
At a time when many neighboring school districts have experienced declining enrollments Peru Central School Superintendent J. Paul Scott said, “We’re bucking a trend at Peru Central School. We’re pleased that people are looking for housing here and are often selecting Peru Central as their district of choice.” Scott projects a stable student population through 2015.
Here are the preliminary grade-by-grade enrollment totals as of September 2008 and September 2007. Ungraded students follow an individual education plan (IEP) associated with the committee on special education. In 2007 the headcount for special education students in grades 7-12 was separately reported. In 2008 the grade 7-12 special education student headcount was included in the diploma student headcount.
