Peru High School hosting 4th Annual Living History Day

On Friday, May 18th, Peru High School will host the fourth annual “Living History Day” engaging high school seniors and roughly fifty [50] Intermediate School fifth grader students from the classrooms of classroom teachers Mr. Korth, Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Catton. Activities will be 10 AM until 12:30 PM, except for lunch time which will be from 11 AM until 11:30 AM. Featured in exhibits and learning stations at this fourth annual event will be roughly forty-five [45] high school seniors from high school teacher Miss Julia Miller’s English 12 Local History and Literature classes. Peru High School students will set up year 1812-related learning stations at Peru High School’s library media center, the high school courtyard and at the bus loop. The classes have the good fortune to have high school science teachers Mrs. Butts and Mr. Mitchell sharing their special knowledge of this topic. Also on hand will be a guest presenter, retired Peru Central Schools teacher Kate Besaw.

Numerous historic materials and equipment will be on loan for the day from the North Country Teacher Center, Plattsburgh’s Kent-Delord House and from the various presenters. This special event will offer nearly one hundred Peru Central students an on-campus opportunity for active engagement with American History.

This event is a wonderful example of high school seniors engaging in an exceptional learning experience for younger students at Peru Central.

Friday May 18th should be an educational and enjoyable special event, which also covers some of the English language arts common core standards and 21st Century skills.
