January home sales weaken
By John T. Ryan
The real estate sales decline came to Clinton County more slowly than some other parts of the New York State, but it appears that the decline has arrived and it is severe. Figures released on February 26 by the New York State Association of Realtors show sales of existing single-family homes declining by 47.4% in January compared to January last year. Median home prices declined by 24.3%. In January 2008 there were 38 homes sold. This year there were only 20 sold sold. Last year the median home price was $141,750 while this year the median price was $107,250. Statewide, the number of existing single family homes sold in January declined by 30.5% and median prices declined by 12.8%.
