Schumer, Gillibrand, Owens Announce Adirondack Regional Airport to Receive More Than $967,000 for Terminal and Safety Improvements
WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kristen Gillibrand and U.S. Congressman Bill Owens announced that the Adirondack Regional Airport will receive a $967,110 U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) grant for improvements to the airport’s terminal that will help it meet Transportation Security Administration (TSA) safety standards. The grant will also fund renovations to the passenger waiting area.
“I am pleased to add this federal investment to the list of ‘arrivals’ at Adirondack Regional Airport,” said Senator Schumer. “I applaud the DOT for helping the airport improve safety in the terminal and better to serve residents and all visitors to the Adirondack region. For New York airports, both big and small, safety comes first.”
“This is a smart investment for Adirondack Regional Airport,” Senator Gillibrand said. “These federal resources will help improve safety and quality for passengers and businesses. And with investments like this to strengthen our airports, that keeps more flights on the move and keeps our economy growing.”
“This grant will make air travel in the Adirondacks safer and improve the airport’s waiting areas,” Congressman Bill Owens said. “I applaud the DOT for investing in improvements at Adirondack Regional that will help our region attract more tourists and connect residents and business travelers to larger airline markets.”
This is the second major DOT grant Adirondack Regional has received this month. Earlier this month, the DOT announced it would fund the redesign of the airport’s terminal apron and under-drain pipe system. Poor drainage around the current apron led to its deterioration.
