Peru Democrats and Republicans Pick Candidates for Town Offices
By John T. Ryan
Peru – The Town of Peru Democratic and Republican parties have announced their nominees for Town Clerk, Town Council, and Town Justice for the November 2018 election.
The Democrats nominated Kregg Bruno for the open one-year Town Board position. Bruno served on the Board from 2009-2015.
The Democrats endorsed Republicans Dianne Miller for the three-year Town Clerk position and incumbent Lawrence Cabana for Town Justice.
Peru Republicans nominated Richard (Ricky) Barber for the one-year Town Council position and Republicans Dianne Miller and Lawrence Cabana for the Town Clerk and Town Justice positions.
The Town Clerk three-year term completes Kathy Flynn’s four-year term. Flynn was reelected in November 2017, but resigned to take a position as Manager of Apple Valley Senior Housing. The Town Board appointed Dianne Miller to the Town Clerk position in January.
The Town Council winner will complete the last year of Brandy McDonald’s four-year term of office. McDonald resigned from the Town Board to run for Town Supervisor. The evenly split Republican-Democrat Board could not agree on appointing a successor to McDonald.
The Town Justice position is a full four-year term of office.
The Peru Gazette will request interviews with all the candidates a few weeks prior to the November election.
