Peru – In action at its December 27, 2018 regular meeting the Peru Town Board authorized Supervisor Brandy McDonald to enter into a contract with the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation (NYSEFC). Peru was awarded a $30,000 NYSEFC grant to finance engineering design of upgrades at the Valcour sewer system. The grant award requires the Town to provide $6,000 in local funding or in-kind services.

A 2019 Ford Escape SUV will be arriving for the use of the Code Enforcement Officer in the next few days. It will replace a well-worn 2004 Jeep SUV with about 80,000 miles. The new Escape is being acquired Ford Motor Company’s leasing division through a lease-purchase agreement. The Town will pay $7878.19 annually for three years and purchase the vehicle for $1.00 at the conclusion of the three-year lease period. A $2,500 trade-in allowance was included in the payment calculation.

Water-Sewer Superintendent Courtney Tetrault reported that the water treatment plant, water tower and reservoir recently received an excellent inspection report from the Clinton County Health Department.

Tetrault also told the Board that the sewer system upgrade archeological study recommended that any new sewer lines be installed on the north side of North Bend Street so as to not disturb any unmarked graves.

The Sullivan Park ice rink is not open because of the recent mild weather and rain. The rink will be flooded as soon as weather permits.

The Town’s Vac truck which is used to pump out sewer lines and pump stations is still being repaired at a downstate dealership.

Security cameras have been installed at Laphams Mills Park.

A manhole cover was stolen behind the Peru Community Church Fellowship Center. It will cost $300 to $400 to replace.

One of the solar signs installed along the Walking Trail by Peru science students is missing.

Code Enforcement Officer thanked Town Clerk Dianne Miller for the beautiful poinsettias adorning the Town Hall.

Highway Superintendent Michael Farrell reported that snow plowing is going fairly well, especially with three new employees. He said frequent snowfalls have resulted in high overtime spending. He will be asking the Board for budget transfers at its December 31st. meeting. Farrell thanked the Board for its cooperation in formulating the 2019 budget.

Dog Control Officer Michael Drollette reported that 107 dogs were licensed this year and that he has taken 39 dogs into custody since January 1st. $2,150 was collected in redemption fees for the Town’s coffers.

Supervisor McDonald thanked employees for the great Christmas party turnout. He also thanked the Peru Fire Department for hosting an open house and traveling throughout the community with truck lights flashing. The Department’s dedication is amazing!
