Canada reducing port of entry hours of operation
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced that as of 11:59 p.m. tonight (April 15) they will reduce hours of operation at four area out-ports:
* HEMMINGFORD (Mooers)
* LACOLLE ROUTE 221 (Overton Corners)
* LACOLLE ROUTE 223 (Rouses Point)
* TROUT RIVER
The Canadian ports of entry at these three locations will now be open daily 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The main Canadian border crossing at Lacolle on I-87 will remain fully operational 24/7, similar to Champlain.
Recently, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reduced hours of operation on the U.S. side of three of these out-ports (Mooers, Overton Corners and Rouses Point) to 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. The reductions at the smaller ports are due to a more than 90% reduction in car activity, and the hours are different as a reflection in part of the continued commuter activity and when it occurs in each direction.
