A team of professors at Clarkson University in Potsdam has received a $200,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to study the spread of COVID-19. The goal is to find out whether the virus is spread in airborne particles by sneezing and coughing alone — or whether air expelled during normal speech can also spread the disease.
Warren County officials say a tenth person there has died from COVID-19, with 15 new confirmed cases of people sick. Half of the deaths in Warren County have involved people living in nursing homes and an assisted living facility.
The total number of cases in Warren County has risen to 143. Five Warren County residents are now hospitalized for treatment of COVID-19, two in critical condition. Meanwhile, St. Lawrence and Washington counties also saw new fatalities yesterday, with one person dying from the disease in both counties.
Region-wide, 1,042 people have tested positive for COVID-19. Nearly half of those people have fully recovered, but 32 people across the North Country have died. Saratoga, St. Lawrence, and Washington counties all have more than a hundred cases.
