Important Items Are on Tonight’s Town Board Agenda
By John T. Ryan
The Peru Gazette plans to resume video coverage of Peru Town Board meetings tonight.
Preparing for the major sewer system upgrade is proceeding. At its May 28th meeting, the Board approved offering the Peru Community Church $8,500 for land needed for a sewage pump station. The original plan called for the pump station to be further west along Elm Street; however, the Board was unable to reach an agreed purchase price with a property owner. The new location is behind the Fellowship Center.
Bids were solicited for the entire project which engineers estimated would cost about $4 million. At last month’s bid opening only one contractor submitted a bid. Town engineers have been reviewing that bid and tonight the Board will decide if it is acceptable.
The agenda also includes the appointment of a new IT consultant. Peru has changed IT consultants several times over the past few years. Citing cost, the Board has always hired one-person companies rather than larger providers.
