A message from Benjamin Pomerance organizer of the Curbside At Harborside Concerts

Monday nights throughout the summer have been the nights when I wrote to you and solicited your support for the upcoming weekend’s Curbside At Harborside drive-in concert. Tonight, I am filling your inbox once more — but this time with words of thanks.

“Could it be possible to have drive-in concerts?” The question seemed like such a simple one at the time. Back in May, a trip to a drive-in movie theatre in Vermont prompted a back porch discussion with my parents about how drive-ins were one of the rare remaining forms of safe entertainment during these days of COVID-19. This thought, combined with sorely missing the usual summer array of live music programming in our area, led to an idea . . . and a project . . . and a summer like none any of us have ever experienced.

Curbside At Harborside existed because of you. My utmost gratitude goes out to each of you who performed at these concerts, attended these concerts, volunteered at these concerts, covered these concerts in the media, and ensured that this precious means of communication kept thriving during these challenging months. There is an old expression that music speaks louder than words. Each of you allowed music in our region to continue speaking clearly at a time when we need it most.

Now, after eleven weeks of concerts that crossed a wide swath of genres and left us clapping our hands and honking our car horns, Curbside At Harborside has drawn to a close. There is no question that this has been an unconventional way to deliver live music and to experience live music. Nevertheless, thanks to you, live music remained alive and well and will continue to do so.

“Could it be possible to have drive-in concerts?” All of you answered that question with a resounding yes. For all of your support throughout this summer when the world was turned upside-down in so many ways, I offer you my thanks and appreciation.

Stay safe, stay well, keep in touch, and let us always keep the music playing in our lives.

All the best,

Benjamin
